Emotions and Back Pain

Lower back pain has been linked to both mental and emotional causes. This page contains notes we are collecting on this topic... so don't put too much belief into them... This is a curiosity at this point to see if there is something worth noting.

Louise Hay in "You Can Heal Your Body" list the following are the mental and emotional causes of lower back pain.

• The ¿sympathetic nervous system involves spinal nerves T1 to L2 or L3.

Vertebrae	Pain here stems from
L-1	Loneliness, need for love, insecurity.
L-2	one is stuck in childhood pain and sees no way out of this. Involves sympathetic nervous system.
L-3	One may be feeling guilt or self-hatred, sexual abuse. Involves sympathetic nervous system.
L-4	May have something to do with rejection of one's sexuality
L-5	Insecurity

The Spine

The spine carries in it the patterns of our anatomical nature. The spine is composed of 5 main areas. The cervical, the thoracic, the lumbar, the sacral and the coccyx.

The Skull

The skull consists of 8 cranial bones and 14 facial bones. The brain is encased by the cranial bones.

The Cervical

The cervical vertebrae from the top down are:

1C	Seventh chakra	pineal gland (Blood supply to the head, scalp, bones of the face, brain, pituitary gland, inner ear, middle ear and sympathetic nervous system)
2C	Sixth chakra	pituitary gland (forehead, mastoid bones, tongue, auditory nerves, optic nerves, eyes and sinuses)
3C	Fifth chakra	thyroid and parathyroid glands (teeth, face bones, cheeks, outer ear and trifacial nerve)
4C	Fourth chakra	thymus (eustachian tube, lips, mouth and nose)
5C	Third chakra	adrenal glands (glands of the neck, pharynx and vocal cords)
6C	Second chakra	pancreas (tonsils, neck muscles and shoulders)
7C	First chakra	gonads- (thyroid gland bursae in the shoulders and elbows)

The Thoracic

The thoracic part of the spine is composed of 12 vertebrae. From the top down they are:

Vertabrae	Nerves connecting from Spine to these body parts
1T	skeletal system- (esophagus, trachea, arms from the elbows down) Involves sympathetic nervous system.
2T	muscular system- (heart and coronary arteries)
3T	respiratory system- (pleura, bronchial tubes, lungs, breast and chest)
4T	digestive system- (common duct and gall bladder)
5T	Body as a whole- circulatory system (blood, liver and solar plexus)
6T	pineal gland (stomach)
7T	pituitary gland (duodenum and Pancreas
8T	thyroid and parathyroid glands (spleen)
9T	thymus gland (Adrenal and supra-renal glands
10T	adrenal glands (kidneys)
11T	pancreas (ureters and Kidneys)
12T	gonads (lymph circulation and small intestines)

Lumbar Spine, Sacrum, Coccyx

1L	skeletal system (inguinal rings and large intestine
2L	muscular system (abdomen, appendix and upper leg) Involves sympathetic nervous system.
3L	respiratory system (knees, bladder, uterus, sex organs) Involves sympathetic nervous system.
4L	digestive system (muscles of the lower back, sciatic nerve and prostrate gland
5L	circulatory system (lower legs, ankles and feet)
The Sacrum	digestive system (hip bones and buttocks)
The Coccyx	circulatory system (rectum and anus)

• Lower back pain generally signifies fear of money and lack of financial support.
• Middle back pain is often symptomatic of guilt, feeling stuck in all that stuff back there or a person feels pressured and wishes they could tell someone to "get off of my back."
• Upper back pain often indicates lack of emotional support, feeling unloved, and/or holding back love.
